Book review by María S.A.
on The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare

The Sign of the Beaver is an amazing book for teenagers! The main characters, Matt and Attean, are teenagers just like us! You will feel a very strong connection with them. Are you brave enough to enter this world?

Now that twelve-year-old Matt and his father have finished building a cabin for their family in the Maine forest, Matt´s father must leave to bring the rest of the family to the new house. Until the day his father returns, Matt must try to survive in the wilderness on his own. Matt is brave, but he´s not prepared for an attack of bees, and he is astonished when he is rescued by an Indian and his grandson, Attean. With time the boys come to know each other, and they have a lot of wonderful adventures together, like coming across a bear, or even questioning the loyalty of some Indian tribes towards the animals that live in the forest. They also learn from each other: while Matt teaches Attean how to read and speak English Attean teaches him how to hunt. The months pass with no sign of Matt´s family. Attean asks Matt to join the Beaver tribe and move north. Should Matt abandon his hopes and go onto a new life? Has his family abandoned him? Will he ever see them again?

I really loved this book and felt very touched with the relationship between Matt and Attean. No matter what you are, a boy or a girl, you will really enjoy the book. I firmly recommend it. So, do you wanna enter this adventure?
